4-star reschedules decision date: Bad news for the Hokies?

Just when it appeared Devon Hunter was closing in on his college choice, the 4-star prospect and Army All-American from Chesapeake, Va., decided to reschedule that announcement:

Hunter had planned to reveal his plans on Christmas Eve but will instead wait until January. He recently took an official visit to North Carolina and before that checked out the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn. A trip to Blacksburg, a place he’s plenty familiar with, is planned for this weekend.

What can one read from Hunter’s move to push back his commitment date? Maybe not a ton, although it could mean the out-of-state schools have a better chance at landing. The Hokies have been considered the favorite by most.

Florida is one candidate to keep an eye on, given the Gators’ success of producing NFL players, including Percy Harvin from Hunter’s hometown. One factor is the presence of Florida defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, previously an assistant at Virginia Tech.

By no means are the Hokies out of the picture, but they will need to reaffirm where they stand with Hunter during his upcoming visit.
