North Carolina has faced a devastating rash of injuries this fall. The situation only got worse when UNC announced that wide receiver Austin Proehl, defensive end Tyler Powell, tight end Carl Tucker, and wide receiver Rontavious Groves were all lost for the season as well.
The losses of Proehl, Powell, Tucker, and Groves gives UNC a total of 13 scholarship players whose season has been cut short to injury. The Tar Heels are reportedly in line to lose as many as 56 starts this season, which surpasses last year’s national leader, Tennessee. Nothing can prepare any college program for such a mass exodus of talent due to injuries. But would Carolina’s depth be improved if the Tar Heels had signed more full recruiting classes in recent years?
