Duke’s young, improving defensive line took two steps backward on Tuesday when veterans Brandon Boyce and Marquies Price were kicked off the team.
Duke coach David Cutcliffe dismissed both players Tuesday morning, saying in a school release that both players failed to meet program standards.
The 6-6, 245-pound Price, a defensive end, started 11 games as a sophomore last season when Duke went 4-8.
Boyce, a defensive tackle, played in eight games as a sophomore in 2016 after he was suspended for the first three games of the season for an internal team matter.
Both had been practicing since Duke began spring practice on Feb. 3. They were set to play important roles as defensive line coach Ben Albert begins his second season as a Duke assistant.
