Florida State went toe-to-toe with plenty of Power Five programs to land 3-star defensive Byron Turner out of New Orleans. The 6-foot-3, 237-pound Turner committed to FSU over Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Colorado, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
247 Sports ranks the St. Augustine standout as the No. 25 strong-side defensive end in the 2021 recruiting class — No. 394 overall.

Turner has a plus-wingspan (6-foot-6) and a good motor off the edge. He should fit nicely in defensive coordinator Adam Fuller’s scheme.
Florida State landed the commitment from Turner on the same day it announced immediate-eligibility waivers for Mississippi State transfers Fabien Lovett and Jarrian Jones.
Turner also becomes the 14th commit in Mike Norvell’s 2021 recruiting class — his first full class since landing in Tallahassee. Florida State’s 2021 class ranks No. 21 in 247 Sports team rankings.
