With a succession plan in place, Duke basketball is working to further transition its recruiting game beyond Coach K. In essence, the Jon Scheyer era starts with the upcoming 2022 recruiting class. At the top of that list: Dariq Whitehead.
Last week, Duke offered Whitehead, a 5-star small forward in the 2022 class. Whitehead, a consensus top-10 prospect in the class, Whitehead also took an official visit to Duke over the weekend.

A native of Newark, New Jersey, the 6-foot-6, 190-pound wing plays his prep basketball for the famed Montverde Academy in Florida.
Whitehead has received offers from plenty of power programs, including Florida State, Florida, Kentucky, Auburn and UCLA, among others.
As an assistant coach, Scheyer has been one of Duke’s top recruiters; his role grow in the program when Jeff Capel left for Pittsburgh in 2018 and he was promoted to associate head coach. Now, the hope is to synchronize the program’s recruiting efforts with the end of Mike Krzyzewski and the start of Scheyer.
