Cedric Baxter Jr. has yet to start his sophomore season of prep football at Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater; however, he’s already committed to his favorite college program. On Wednesday, the 6-foot, 195 pound athlete committed to Florida State.
Baxter already had offers from a dozen programs, including Penn State, Auburn and Central Florida. Two other ACC programs — Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh — also offered Baxter.

Unsurprisingly, Baxter is the first commit in Florida State’s 2023 recruiting class. In fact, Baxter is just the second 2023 prospect to commit to an ACC program; back in April, Miami landed 2023 wide receiver Lamar Seymore.
At this point, most (if not all) ACC programs are still working on building out 2021 recruiting classes. Baxter’s commitment comes before he even visited Florida State’s campus as a recruit.
FSU is also off to a strong start with its 2022 recruiting class, too: 5-star cornerback Travis Hunter, a top-10 overall prospect, committed back in early March.
