Pastner hires first assistant

Josh Pastner’s first hire at Georgia Tech will be a familiar name to Yellow Jackets fans.

Georgia State assistant and Tech alum Darryl LaBarrie took to Instagram on Monday to announce he’ll be joining Pastner’s staff. It will be his second stint as an assistant with the Jackets after coaching under Paul Hewitt for two seasons from 2009-11.

LaBarrie spent the last five seasons with the Panthers, and during that time, he recruited key transfers, including former NC State and Kentucky guard Ryan Harrow and former Virginia Tech small forward Manny Atkins.

Before his first coaching stop at Georgia Tech, LaBarrie served as an assistant at Campbell and ECU. He played for the Yellow Jackets from 1997-2001 after beginning his playing career at Florida A&M.
