Two players transferring out of Virginia Tech

Jalen Hudson and Satchel Pierce are transferring out of Virginia Tech’s basketball program, according to Norm Wood of the Daily Press.

Pierce announced on Twitter Tuesday that he would be leaving the team and plans on playing elsewhere. Hudson was reportedly granted his release as well.

Both Hudson and Pierce arrived in Blacksburg as part of Virginia Tech’s 2014 recruiting class. The former committed to the Hokies in October 2013 when James Johnson was the program’s head coach, while the latter initially pledged to Marquette before following Buzz Williams to Virginia Tech.

As a sophomore shooting guard this past season, Hudson started 24 games, averaging 8.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest. He was third on the team in made three-pointers with 28.

Pierce saw limited action this year, playing in only 20 of Virginia Tech’s 35 games. The big man averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 boards per game.
