For a long time quarterback play has been a source of concern in Blacksburg, Virginia. Aside from Logan Thomas’ somewhat decent first season running the show back 2011, it’s been since Tyrod Taylor that Virginia Tech had someone under center who could inspire confidence in the fanbase. That, however, changed this season with the addition of Jerod Evans, who as junior is lighting it up for the Hokies under first-year coach Justin Fuente.
After a prolific 2015 season throwing the ball for Trinity Valley CC, the one-time Air Force Academy quarterback committed to Virginia Tech last December. Fuente was coy during the spring and fall about who his starting quarterback would be in 2016; however, after just four games, it’s easy to see why the new coach called upon Evans to be his starter. Fuente’s decision to speak very little about his quarterback before the season may have tempered expectations for the 6-4 quarterback, but his early season performance has certainly garnered some seriously deserved attention.
