ACC Bracketology: Virginia Tech on the wrong side of The NCAA Tournament Bubble

With Day 2 of the 2022 ACC Tournament set to get going, Virginia Tech will be in action — with hope of the NCAA Tournament on the line.

The Hokies enter this event as the 7-seed. In years past, No. 6 ACC team could usually feel pretty good about its NCAA Tournament resume. That, however, isn’t the case for Mike Young’s crew.

Virginia Tech: Data Points

  • Record: 19-12, (11-9 ACC)
  • NET Ranking: No. 37
    • Virginia Tech ranks slightly higher than Wake Forest in terms of the NET, but the Hokies are still just 1-5 in Quad 1 games.
  • RPI: No. 75
  • KenPom: No. 29
  • Bart Torvik: No. 29

Outlook

Virginia Tech is almost certainly facing too tough of a task. The Hokies are on the wrong side of the bubble and barely register is current Bracket Matrix listings.

VT seemed to be making a run down the stretch. The Hokies won nine of 10 games; however, they fell on the road in the regular season finale at Clemson, which is a brutal loss.

Now, Virginia Tech gets a rematch with Clemson. The winner moves on to play Notre Dame. Virginia Tech needs a win over Notre Dame just to get back in the conversation. It’s a long shot, but if VT could win vs. Notre Dame and North Carolina, then things would actually get a little interesting.
