Aaron McLaughlin commits, NC State lands 4-star 2021 QB

Aaron McLaughlin looks like the future of the quarterback position for NC State. Early Thursday after, the 4-star quarterback from Georgia committed to the Wolfpack.

247 Sports composite ranking slots McLaughlin in as the No. 13 pro-style quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class. McLaughlin picked NC State over offers from Miami, Baylor, Auburn, Louisville and Florida State. Alabama and Florida offered McLaughlin, too.

McLaughlin’s recruitment was led by Tim Beck — NC State’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach — and Kurt Roper. Roper was moved from quarterbacks coach to running backs coach.

NC State continues to manage a strong hold in the state of Georgia, a key region in the program’s recruiting footprint. McLaughlin is the fifth commit in NC State’s 2021 recruiting class; all five players have committed over the last two months.

This move is, potentially, significant from a momentum perspective, too. Mack Brown and North Carolina have spent the last few months absolutely dominating in-state recruiting for the 2021 class, which has drawn national attention, too. After putting together a top-20 class in 2020, UNC’s 2021 encore has been even better.

However, it wasn’t too long ago that NC State was really doing some damage on the recruiting trail. Back in 2018 and 2019, Dave Doeren put together consecutive top-35 recruiting classes.

The addition of McLaughlin is a step in the right direction: NC State adds a talented prospect at a position of need, while also snagging some positive headlines.
