NC State lands top recruit of the last decade: 4-star DE Savion Jackson commits to the Pack

Dave Doeren may have landed his signature recruit with the commitment of 4-star defensive end Savion Jackson.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Jackson, who plays his prep ball in Clayton, North Carolina, is one of the top two players in the state of North Carolina for 2019. 247 Sports ranks him as the No. 29 prospect in the nation (No. 46 in the composite).

According to ESPN’s rankings, Jackson is NC State’s highest-rated commitment since Mike Glennon, back in 2008.

In the 2017 season, as a junior, Jackson recorded eight sacks and 20 total tackles for loss. Jackson committed to NC State over Virginia Tech, South Carolina, North Carolina and Clemson.

Home is where the talent is, apparently

Over the last four weeks, NC State has received eight 2019 commitments; the Pack’s 2019 class now stands at 11, including eight players from the state of North Carolina. With the commitment of Savion Jackson, NC State now (currently) has a top-25 class, per 247 Sports.

All 11 commits are from either North Carolina or Georgia; earlier this week, NC State received a pledged from 3-star Georgia safety Jakeen Harris.

NC State has commitments from six of the state’s top-50 prospects. That’s led by Jackson, of course, and 3-star linebacker Drake Thomas.
