IRISH TAKE A LOOK AT HALL OF FAMER’S NEPHEW

Notre Dame paid a visit to rising junior Kaymen Cureton, a quarterback at Los Angeles High. Cureton’s father, Clay, played running back and DB at San Diego State, but his family includes a far more famous San Diego State alum. Cureton is the nephew of late Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn. Cureton only has an offer from San Jose State so far, but Duke and Notre Dame have both expressed interest. Cureton threw for 2,903 yards and 23 touchdowns while rushing for 451 yards and three touchdowns.

MIKE BREY MOVES SLOWLY INTO 2017 CLASS

While many coaches charged headlong into the class of 2017 on June 15, firing out scholarship offers on the first day they could contact prospects, Notre Dame moved slowly into the pool. Mike Brey made just one scholarship offer early in the contact period. Brey extended an offer to D.J. Harvey, a 6-6, 185-pound 5-star shooting guard from DeMatha Catholic in Maryland. Harvey also has offers from Louisville, NC State and Wake Forest in the ACC, as well as Texas, Maryland, Georgetown and Arizona.

DONTE VAUGHN TAKING SECOND VISIT TO ND

4-star cornerback Donte Vaughn received a scholarship offer on his unofficial visit to Notre Dame on June 10. He apparently liked the campus so much, that he’s headed back in July. Vaughn will take a second visit to Notre Dame, bringing his parents this time, on July 17 and 18. Vaughn is 6-3, 192 pounds. He’s also received offers from North Carolina and Miami in the ACC. LSU, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss are recruiting him hard, and he’s planning a visit to Texas A&M after his trip to South Bend.
