Tony Bennett declines title raise, makes donation to UVA

Over the weekend, a story was kicked out by Virginia’s Jeff White on the school’s basketball coach Tony Bennett. According to White, after leading Virginia to its first ever national title in college basketball in April, Bennett met with director of athletics Carla Williams to discuss a raise; however, Bennett declined a raise. Instead, Bennett asked to provide raises to his coaching staff, and add another year to his contract. Bennett’s deal with the school was extended another year, too. He now has seven years on his contract.

However, that wasn’t all.

Bennett and his wife, Laurel, donated $500,000 to a career-development program launch for current and former Virginia men’s basketball players. The program will help members of the basketball program when they move on from college and into the professional ranks beyond basketball.
