Sam Howell named ACC Preseason Player of the Year

The results are out for the ACC Preseason Player of the Year: North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell.

Howell received 114 votes from a 147-person media panel. Miami quarterback D’Eriq King was the only other player to receiver more than 10 votes.

During his first two seasons at UNC, Howell has thrown 68 touchdown passes, which is the most through a sophomore season in ACC history and tied for the UNC program record.

Back in the 2020 season, Howell led the ACC and ranked sixth nationally with 30 touchdown passes; he also topped the league with 3,586 passing yards, the fourth most in the nation.

Howell will try to become the first Tar Heel since Lawrence Taylor back in 1980 to win ACC Player of the Year.
