Efton Reid, previously one of the top uncommitted prospects in the 2021 recruiting class, has his home for next season. Over the weekend, the 6-foot-11 Reid committed to Will Wade and the LSU Tigers. (Duke is still waiting word on 5-star forward Patrick Baldwin Jr.)
A native of Virginia, right in the ACC’s footprint, Reid will travel south to play for Wade, who of course has ties to the state due to his time with VCU.
247 Sports ranks Reid as the No. 24 overall prospect in the 2021 class and the No. 3 center.
With LSU as the big winner, several ACC teams just lost out. Virginia, Pittsburgh, Florida State, Louisville and North Carolina all tried but failed to land Reid. This would’ve been a major get for every program.
UNC can still feel confident, though, in next year’s starting frontcourt of Armando Bacot and Brady Manek, the Oklahoma transfer.
LSU is set to turn a great deal of its roster over after this season, including forward/center Darius Days — another former UNC target in the 2018 class who will head to the 2021 NBA Draft.
Within the last week, LSU landed not only Reid, but also Illinois transfer wing Adam Miller. Miller was a top-35 prospect in the 2020 class. He started 31 games this season for an Illinois team that won the Big Ten and grabbed a 1-seed for the NCAA Tournament. However, he decided to leave after one season; as a transfer, he picked LSU over Kentucky, among others.
