Back in 2017, Notre Dame and Wisconsin announced a future home-and-home series. This scheduling maneuver came with a twist, though: both games would take place at NFL Stadiums. As part of the plan, there would be one game in 2020 at Lambeau Field, and another the following: in 2021 at Solider Field in Chicago.
However, due to concerns with COVID-19, the Big Ten announced last week that it will go to a conference-only schedule for the 2020 season. (Ah, remember 2017, when coronavirus wasn’t a thing? Good times, man.) This means the 2020 game in Green Bay is off the table.
Subsequently, both schools released statements expressing interest in rescheduling a matchup between the two at Lambeau. From Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick: ”We look forward to playing Wisconsin at Soldier Field in 2021 and Barry and I are committed to scheduling a game at Lambeau Field in the future.” (Swarbrick is referring to Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez.)
