Gaining notoriety during his 2021 run, current Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson is one of five coaches in Wake history to post a winning record. Since assuming the head coach position in 2014, he has led Wake to a program-record six straight bowl games from 2016-2021. Clawson was honored as the 2021 ACC Coach of the Year after his breakout campaign last season, during which the Demon Deacons posted a program-tying record of 11-3. Abiding by the slogan “Good to great,” Clawson led the once-bottom dweller team in the conference standings to top the Atlantic division and advance to the ACC championship for the first time since 2006. Clawson continues to mentor the Deacs and write his legacy in Winston Salem into the 2022 season, posing a challenge to other Atlantic foes like Florida State and Clemson.
