Top ACC football coaches by win percentage in the modern era

10. Dick Sheridan: 63.7% (1986-1992) — NC State

Dick Sheridan’s 1986 season shocked the Wolfpack as he flipped the digits of the past three seasons’ records, 3-8, to 8-3-1. Notable changes Sheridan made during his tenure were creating the NC State diamond logo, which showcased all three of the school’s initials, and allowing players to try out for the positions they wanted to play. They proved successful — Sheridan’s initial bout in Raleigh earned him ACC Coach of the Year, Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year and a Peach Bowl appearance. The Wolfpack was ranked for three of the seven seasons Sheridan coached in Raleigh, and was invited to six bowl games. The program that Sheridan built at NC State revitalized its rivalry games against UNC — as NC State won six of their seven matchups — and set the stage for the Wolfpack’s relevancy in the ACC in the coming years. Sheridan’s accomplishments were recently honored as he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
