One of the staples of the Dave Doeren era in Raleigh has been a strong offensive line. On Thursday, NC State added to its future offensive line foundation — with a commitment from Thornton Gentry.
A South Carolina product, Gentry is a 3-star prospect; he’s rated by 247 Sports as the No. 9 center in the 2021 recruiting class. Earlier this week, NC State added a commitment from Jaleel Davis, another 3-star offensive lineman.

Gentry is a top-5 prospect, overall, in the state of South Carolina, per 247 Sports. His recruitment was led by NC State offensive line coach John Garrison.
While Clemson and South Carolina had yet to offer Gentry, several other Power 5 programs were in the mix with offers: Missouri, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Kansas State. East Carolina and Appalachian State made offers, too.
With three commitments in the month of May, NC State’s 2021 class (No. 54 in the FBS) is now seven deep. Gentry is the first South Carolina addition to the group, which also features players from North Carolina (4) and Georgia (2).
