Rick Pitino secured a couple of key commitments in recent weeks as Indiana 7-footer Malik Williams committed to the Cardinals on Aug. 4 and Georgia point guard Darius Perry followed suit with a pledge to UofL on Aug. 16.
With Williams and Perry on board, Pitino and his staff can breathe a collective sigh of relief. The tandem, both top-75 prospects nationally, are the first hoops recruits in the 2017 class to commit to Louisville.
With Chinanu Onuaku gone to the Houston Rockets and the only incoming scholarship freshman, V.J. King, being a wing, the Cards clearly needed another quality big man. Williams will provide UofL a capable post presence who should be in position to provide an immediate impact in 2017-18.
Perry will likely spend a year developing as Quentin Snider’s backup but should be in position to be the man at point guard for Louisville moving on from there.
