What are Roy Williams’ three keys to success this season?

Coming off a 26-12 finish and a Sweet 16 appearance from a year ago, UNC enters the 2015-16 college basketball season with four returning starters and hopes of making a run to the national championship. At this year’s ACC Operation Basketball event, Tar Heel head coach Roy Williams sat down with The David Glenn Show and touched on what the team needs to do in order to be successful.

“We’ve got to play defense without fouling, we’ve got to control our defensive board a lot better than we did last year, and we have to stop turning the ball over every time I’m turning around,” Williams said. “Those are three miscues last year that were big for us, so we’ve tried to focus on making sure we do a better job.”

One issue Williams isn’t concerned about is selfishness.

“A lot of things that kill teams are people start thinking about their own situation and looking down the road instead of doing the job they have,” he said. “I feel that I’m very fortunate to have the kids I have that they will take care of that part.”

During the conversation, Williams also talked about his offseason knee surgeries, the challenges the program faces as issues with the NCAA remain unresolved and how often he thinks about his late friend and mentor Dean Smith. Click below to hear the full interview:
