Injury bug bites UNC’s two-deep

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina senior offensive guard Caleb Peterson will undergo season-ending back surgery on Friday at The Carrell Clinic in Dallas, Texas. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Andrew Dossett. Peterson, a native of Auburn, Ala., started 42 games in his career and had made 30 consecutive starts before missing the Virginia Tech game.

Freshman linebacker Jonathan Smith had successful season-ending surgery by Dr. Joshua Tennant at UNC Hospitals on Thursday to repair a fracture in his right foot. Smith injured his foot in practice prior to the Virginia Tech game. A true freshman from Laurinburg, N.C., he played in six games and had one tackle.
