The 2021 Fenway Bowl between SMU and Virginia has been canceled. The decision is due to COVID-19 issues with the Virginia football program.
This marks a disappointing coda on what’s been a challenging final month of the season for the Cavaliers.

Back on Dec. 2, head coach Bronco Mendenhall elected to step down. Following a coaching search, Tony Elliott was hired away from Clemson. A mostly skeletal coaching staff remained in the interim to coach through the bowl game; however, that group won’t get to even see things play out properly.
The 2021 bowl season is off to a rough start to to COVID-19. Please, if you haven’t been vaccinated, go get your shots. And if you’re eligible for a booster, go do that, as soon as you possibly can.
