Chazz Surratt: “I tried to prepare myself as best I could to go out and make a difference this year”

After spending his first three seasons at North Carolina as a quarterback — making seven starts in 2017 — Chazz Surratt transitioned to linebacker for the 2019 season. That move correlated with the arrival of Mack Brown in Chapel Hill, along with freshman quarterback Sam Howell, too.

The shift proved to be significant for Surratt; in his first season as a linebacker, Surratt led the ACC with 110 tackles (9.2 per game). UNC won six games and finished the regular season ranked 66th in defensive efficiency. For his efforts, Surratt was named first team All-ACC.
