Well, it’s been a strange last 24 hours or so for NC State. Contract negotiation talks between football coach Dave Doeren and athletic director Debbie played out publicly. That’s normally not the case. It appeared as though Doeren tried to leverage an eight-win season — and openings at multiple SEC programs — into a new, improved contract. Yow, initially, called his bluff. A somewhat awkward standoff ensued.
However, news broke on Thursday afternoon that Dave Doeren would not take the open job at Tennessee. This also comes after murmurs that Doeren postured for the Ole Miss and Mississippi State jobs, although reports on that topic conflict.
Joe Giglio of the News & Observer was the first to reveal the news on Twitter.

Pardon the cliche: No I in team for Dave Doeren
As of late Wednesday night, Doeren reportedly had a serious offer from Tennessee; countering that, though, was an improved offer from NC State — one that likely benefits his staff, too.
One thing overlooked, the last 24 hours: Dave Doeren has put together an excellent staff. This new deal with State will help him keep it together

The decision appears to be well received from one of NC State’s top 2018 commitments: 4-star DT Alim McNeil.
