Mack Brown and North Carolina continue to stay hot on the recruiting trail; the 2021 class is shaping up to be a strong one for the Tar Heels, too. Less than 72 hours after 4-star defensive end Keeshawn Silver committed to UNC, the Heels landed another blue-ship talent: 4-star quarterback Drake Maye.
The 6-foot-5 Maye is the son of former North Carolina quarterback Mark Maye (1984-87) and the younger brother Luke Maye, an All-ACC basketball player at UNC (2015-19).
Maye initially committed to Alabama; however, he flipped his decision on Friday, and will join a talented QB room in Chapel Hill in 2021. A product of Charlotte, Maye plays prep ball for Myers Parks; during his two seasons as a starter for the Mustangs, Maye has a record of 25-3.
North Carolina now has seven 2021 commitments — all from in-state prospects.

UNC offensive coordinator Phil Longo led Maye’s recruitiment. Along with Alabama, Maye also had offers from a bevy of powerhouse programs, including Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Miami and Michigan. NC State offered Maye, too.
