Louisville forward Chinanu Onuaku has not been cleared by doctors to take part in private NBA workouts and will undergo minor heart surgery on Tuesday, Cardinals coach Rick Pitino told the Louisville Courier-Journal.
According to the report, Pitino believes Onuaku will “resume workouts in four or five days.”
A rising junior, Onuaku decided in March to test the NBA waters. Pitino also told the Courier-Journal that he expects the big man to stay in the NBA Draft.
“(Onuaku’s) desire has been to go forth 100 percent and try and go to the league this year,” the head coach said. “That’s been his family’s and his mindset. I’m behind it 100 percent, and our staff is, too.”
DraftExpress.com projects Onuaku as a second-round pick, penciling him in at No. 38 overall.
