3 ACC programs named in new round of federal charges: NC State, Miami and Louisville

From the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York: New charges have been brought against former Adidas rep Jim Gatto. The charges are in connection with NC State, Miami and Louisville; a fourth school — Kansas — is named, too. This is the latest break in the FBI’s investigation into corruption in college basketball.

According to Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports, the new charges are tied to NC State — not Miami or Louisville. Last month, at the ACC Tournament, it was announced that NC State had been subpoenaed by the grand jury, back in January 2018.

Mark Armstrong of ABC 11 in Raleigh/Durham highlights the areas of the release that pertain to NC State. The student-athlete mentioned here is believed to be Dennis Smith Jr. As you can read, it’s not exactly a good look for whomever “Coach 4” is — Mark Gottfried or perhaps assistant Orlando Early.

The investigation, according to the Department of Justice, remains ongoing. On Tuesday, NC State released a statement; the schools says it will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation.
