Wake Wisely Waits, Wins

Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson led the Demon Deacons through a scrimmage Saturday in Winston-Salem

Wake Forest recorded its third win of the season Saturday, a 3-0 victory over Boston College. It’s the second time in two years at Wake Forest Dave Clawson has coached a team to a conference win without scoring a touchdown in the game.

Though the stat may draw snickers, the reality is that Wake Forest knew the first few years after a coaching change were going to be tough and they will take hard-earned wins–especially conference wins–any way they can get them. After all, if you’re winning games without scoring touchdowns it must at least be a testament to your good defense.

It can also be a sign of a well-coached team when they execute the “little things” that add up to wins in the mistake-prone game of football. David Glenn explained on his radio show Monday how the Deacons showed some savvy in the way they handled the late game goal line situation against the Eagles and earned the win.
