Wake Forest came out of its Junior Day with two commitments on the defensive side of the ball: Jamal Riggins of Sebastian, Fla., and Jake Simpson of Buford, Ga.
Riggins is an inside linebacker with speed and a lanky frame at 6-3, 210 pounds. He led his team with 100 tackles, blocked four kicks, intercepted a pass, forced a fumble and recovered one.
Although he’s currently unranked by the recruiting services, he was drawing attention from South Carolina, Clemson and others. His only other confirmed offers were from South Carolina, Western Michigan and Idaho.
The Deacons did not add a linebacker in the 2015 class, so it’s a clear need going into 2017.
