Kevin Johnson And Deacons Look To Rally Under Clawson

Kevin Johnson joined The David Glenn Show at the ACC Football Kickoff recently to talk about the new look of Wake Forest football under coach Dave Clawson.

“One word to describe him (Clawson): passion,” said Johnson, the redshirt senior cornerback. “It’s getting kind of contagious.”

Many teams enter each season with a team motto. And if not a team motto, players may have their own motto. When asked about the Demon Deacons’ motto heading into this season, Johnson responded by saying, “We all we got.” He says that many people doubt Wake Forest, so they encourage themselves and push themselves by turning to their brothers on the football field and chanting this at the conclusion of each practice.

As an undersized player (5-10, 145 pounds) coming out of high school, Johnson thanked his previous coach, Jim Grobe. “I love Grobe because he took a chance on me.” Johnson also said that, as a running back in high school, he loved scoring touchdowns. Now as a cornerback, he still misses the touchdowns, but he says that playing running back has helped him at cornerback because he understands what offenses are doing.

Johnson and the Deacons look to have a standout season under Clawson. But with a schedule including visits to Louisville, Florida State and Duke, as well as home games against Clemson and Virginia Tech, Wake Forest has its work cut out for this year.
