Danny Manning knew that next season he’d have to replace two players who have been cornerstones of the Wake Forest program for the last four seasons: Codi Miller-McIntyre and Devin Thomas. From what we’re seeing on the court, replacing Thomas is going to be much more difficult than Miller-McIntyre.
As we look ahead at next season, the Deacons will have plenty of backcourt options to handle McIntyre’s role. In fact, they may have more clarity without McIntyre, who has never clearly been either a point guard or shooting guard. McIntyre has created some shots, averaging 4.2 assists over his sophomore and junior seasons, but he’s never been one of the top creators in the league. As a scorer, he relies on drives and free throws, but he can’t stretch defenses (career 26 percent from 3-point range).
