Report: UVa picks up QB transfer

Virginia has seen a lot of movement at the quarterback position in recent weeks, and the Cavaliers will reportedly be welcoming a new signal-caller this summer. According to Joe Schad of ESPN, former Arizona quarterback Connor Brewer is transferring to UVa.

Coming out of high school, Brewer signed with Texas as part of the 2012 class and redshirted his freshman season. After his freshman year, he transferred to Arizona and sat out the 2013 season as a transfer. As a redshirt sophomore in 2014, he saw limited action in three games for the Wildcats, and he later opted to leave the program.

In April, Brewer announced on social media that he would attend Northern Arizona of the FCS ranks, but those plans changed after quarterback Greyson Lambert left Virginia’s program last month.

As a graduate transfer, Brewer can play right away for the Cavaliers and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. Matt Johns, who started three games for UVa in 2014, was named the team’s starter coming out of the spring.

A native of Scottsdale, Arizona, Brewer was rated the No. 5 player in his state in the 2012 recruiting class by Rivals.com.
