Entering his fifth season as the head coach at Virginia, Mike London might have the hottest seat of any coach in the ACC. An 18-31 overall record, including only six wins in the last two seasons, has the coach on thin ice entering a year in which the Cavaliers face UCLA at home before eventually traveling to Duke, Florida State and Virginia Tech.
Arguably the biggest reason for the team’s lack of success has been poor quarterback play. In London’s first four seasons in Charlottesville, no Virginia quarterback has thrown more than 14 touchdown passes in a season. However, in a recent visit with The David Glenn Show, London expressed confidence in this year’s No. 1 signal-caller.
“Greyson Lambert, the projected starter, the starter right now, has more passing attempts than nine of the projected starters in the ACC,” London said. “So the quarterback position for us is much better than what it’s been in the past.”
In addition to the quarterback situation, London addressed the topic of job security, saying that he is a father before a coach, but that doesn’t mean he’s not taking his position seriously.
“I’m 100 percent committed to football. Virginia, the people, the fans — they deserve the opportunities to see their team be successful.”
The interview also included discussion of the Commonwealth Cup, the Cavaliers’ team captains and an emotional moment when London touched on his role as a father.
