Virginia added a key basketball commitment in August when then-2016 prospect Mamadi Diakite pledged to the Cavaliers. Last week, head coach Tony Bennett announced that Diakite reclassified and will join UVa’s basketball program this season.
“We are excited and fortunate to add Mamadi to the Virginia basketball family this season,” Bennett said. “Mamadi is an athletic forward with a big upside. We look forward to his development during his career at UVa.”
The power forward from Conakry, Guinea, will redshirt the 2015-16 season, but his decision to reclassify is a plus for the Wahoos.
