PAPAGIANNIS MENTIONS STATE AS COLLEGE OPTION
Georgios Papagiannis, a 7-1 center from Greece, is still considering coming to the United States to play at the college level next year. Papagiannis spoke to Draft Express at the end of June and said that college is “still an option” for him. The three schools he mentioned as being high on his radar were NC State, Kentucky and St. John’s. State coach Mark Gottfried has made several trips to visit Papagiannis in Greece. The big man is currently playing in the U19 Wold Championships. He’s averaging 11.0 points and 11.7 rebounds in the championships so far.
STATE MISSES ON GARRETT WALSTON
Tight end Garrett Walston made his college choice on June 30, and the Wolfpack were on the outside, looking in. Walston chose Georgia over UNC and NC State. Walston was initially going to decide in May, but he put off the decision at the last minute. Since then, the Pack have added two tight end commitments to the class of 2016, making them a long shot to land Walston. The 3-star from Wilmington, NC also had offers from Boston College, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
WALK-ON KICKER JOINS PACK
NC State will add a kicker to the class of 2016, as Asa Alexander will be a preferred walk-on. Alexander kicks at Rose High in Greenville, N.C. The 5-11, 185-pound rising senior has made 10 of 15 field goals and 109 of 121 PATS in two years on the varsity. He’s also thrown two touchdown passes as a quarterback, rushed for two scores and averaged more than 31 yards on punts. Incoming freshman Kyle Bambard is on scholarship as a kicker, but he missed an extra point attempt in the spring game, which may have coaches looking for some insurance.
