Current NBA Teams and Conference Structure

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is one of the most popular professional basketball leagues in the world. As of the 2023-2024 season, the NBA consists of 30 teams. These teams are divided into two conferences: the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference, each containing 15 teams.

The conferences are further split into three divisions:

Eastern Conference:

  1. Atlantic Division: Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors.
  2. Central Division: Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks.
  3. Southeast Division: Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards.

Western Conference:

  1. Northwest Division: Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz.
  2. Pacific Division: Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings.
  3. Southwest Division: Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs.

The NBA has maintained 30 teams since the 2004-2005 season when the Charlotte Bobcats (now known as the Charlotte Hornets) joined the league as an expansion team. There has been ongoing speculation about potential expansion in the future, with cities like Seattle and Las Vegas often mentioned as possible locations for new franchises. However, as of now, the league remains at 30 teams.
