Virginia hit its bye week coming off a Friday night victory at Boise State on Sept. 22, but for the Cavaliers coaching staff the extra time between games was about more than just preparing for Saturday’s ACC opener against Duke.
With recent changes to the Division I recruiting calendar, including the addition of an early signing period in December, in-season recruiting has become even more critical, and coaches across the country are working to utilize their bye week for visiting and evaluating recruits. Virginia was no different, and the bye week is perhaps an even more critical time because UVA head coach Bronco Mendenhall is hesitant to send his staff on the road for Friday night high school games before the Cavs play on Saturdays.
