After opening the 2019 season as NC State’s starting quarterback, Matt McKay will play ball somewhere else in 2020. On Sunday, a day after NC State’s loss to UNC, McKay announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
McKay started the first five games for the Wolfpack this season; NC State posted a 3-1 record in that stretch. However, in an effort to inject some life to a so-so passing game, Dave Doeren switched to Bailey Hockman at quarterback. That change started during the Florida State game, when McKay was pulled after attempting seven passes.
For the season, McKay completed 57.3 percent of his passes — for 910 yards (6.1 yards per attempt), three touchdowns and one interception.

McKay finished the season with four rushing touchdowns, too, which ranks second on NC State’s roster.
