Johns projected no higher than fourth on the depth chart going into the 2016 season. Returning starter Matt Johns (no relation) and senior Connor Brewer split first-team reps during the spring, and over the weekend, the Cavaliers landed ECU quarterback transfer Kurt Benkert.
A native of Washington, D.C., Nick Johns was considered the No. 24 pro-style passer in the class of 2015 according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
