Second time’s a charm for Kirven, UVA

In the end, John Kirven knew that Charlottesville was the place for him.

It might have taken him a little longer than the UVA coaches had hoped to finally firm things up, but the 6-6, 240-pound tight end affirmed his loyalties to Bronco Mendenhall’s program on July 4.

Kirven, a Raleigh, N.C., native who boards at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia, initially committed to the Cavaliers last October when Mike London was still in charge. The 2017 prospect stuck with UVA at first through the transition to Mendenhall, but with new scholarship offers pouring in following National Signing Day this past winter, he decided to open things up in early March.
