NC State center Omer Yurtseven is returning to school for his sophomore season, according to a release.
Yurtseven averaged 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a freshman with the Wolfpack. He shot 45.7 percent from the field.
Mark Gottfried signed the Turkish big man last spring. Then a 5-star recruit, Yurtseven helped give NC State the No. 4 recruiting class in the nation, per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
The NCAA handed Yurtseven a nine-game suspension to start the season due to issues with his amateur status. The 7-footer averaged 18.9 minutes per game in his 22 appearances, but he struggled to adjust to the speed of the college game.
Yurtseven’s return will add depth down low for new head coach Kevin Keatts. With senior Lennard Freeman coming off a redshirt season, the Pack will have two centers fro 2017-18.
