Newest Wake Forest commit could see the field early

Wake Forest has landed its second cornerback in less than a week, getting a commitment from Coby Davis of the Maret School in Washington, D.C.

Davis is ranked the No. 84 cornerback in the class by 247Sports. He had a slew of offers from smaller schools, such as Army, Buffalo, Fordham, Lehigh and Navy, with Virginia being the only other Power 5 program to offer.

At 6-1, 180 pounds, Davis is a lanky corner with excellent hands and good leaping ability, no doubt helped by his training for basketball, in which he also excels.

“I just had a great connection with the coaching staff and even some of the players,” Davis told 247Sports. “I also felt that they trusted me and I started to feel the same way as I started to learn more about the program. I think these are important years coming up for Wake, and I would love to be a part of what’s happening.”

Davis follows Troy Simon, a corner from Alpharetta, Ga., in committing to Wake’s 2017 class.
