Just days after NC State lost its lone signee in the 2017 class, the Wolfpack picked up a new commitment.
According to multiple reports, point guard Lavar Batts pledged to NCSU on Saturday. The former VCU signee made his call just four days after the Pack granted shooting guard Thomas Allen his release.
Batts is NC State’s first commitment of the Kevin Keatts era. As the No. 96 overall player in the 2017 class per 247Sports’ composite rankings, Batts signed with VCU in November. However, he received a release from his letter of intent after Rams coach Will Wade departed for LSU last month.
The 6-1, 160-pound guard provides depth at a position of need for the Wolfpack. Last Tuesday, Dennis Smith Jr. declared for the NBA Draft, which left Markell Johnson as the only true point guard on the roster.
