Hopes of flipping other recruits fading for Wake Forest

As football signing day approaches, the Deacons continue to add players, make final pitches and try to hold on players they already have committed.

Wake added a low-profile commitment from Thomas Cole of Wellsburg, W.Va., who flipped from Akron.

“When Wake Forest offered me, it’s just hard not to go to a school like that,” Cole said. “It’s ACC football and academically it’s a top 30 school in the nation. Even after football, I’m pretty much set with a degree from Wake.”

Cole (6-5, 228) played receiver in high school, catching 77 passes and even getting carries in the running game, but he will transition to tight end in college. He joins Brandon Chapman as tight ends in the class.
