Amidst all the attention on bigger names, Wake Forest added an unheralded football recruit to the class of 2017 over the weekend.
Offensive lineman Allan Rappleyea, who is unranked by most major recruiting services, pledged to the Demon Deacons on Saturday. Rappleyea is 6-5, 265 pounds and is from Milton, Massachusetts, a former stomping ground of coach Dave Clawson and his staff.
The commitment is interesting, as Clawson may have fewer than 15 scholarships to give in the class. The staff must have faith that Rappleyea can add muscle to his big frame. The flipside is that he shows good mobility.
Rappleyea’s offer list mostly included Ivy League schools, plus Buffalo. However, he had just picked up an offer from Syracuse, and Boston College and Virginia Tech have shown interest.
