As Wake Forest gets set to take on No. 3 Tennessee in Knoxville this weekend, news out of Winston-Salem. Freshman guard Jamie Lewis will transfer out of the basketball program. As Conor O’Neill from the Winston-Salem Journal notes, Lewis becomes the eighth player to leave Wake Forest in the last 12 months.

Going back over the last 18 months, the relationship between Lewis and Wake Forest has been interesting. Initially an NC State commit, Lewis decommitted from the Wolfpack and pledged to Wake last November.
A week before the 2018-19 season started, Lewis was placed on leave from the program. At the time, Danny Manning noted: ““Jamie is not meeting the academic expectations that I have of our student-athletes.”
Lewis returned in time to play in the season-opener against NC A&T. Last week, however, Lewis was again placed on leave from the program.

He will finish his career in black and old gold after appearing in only eight games and scoring a total of eight points.
