How personal connections brought Kevin Keatts to NCSU

For weeks, David Glenn made it clear that NC State‘s latest basketball coaching search would not end in disaster. Outcomes of searches that led to the hirings of Sidney Lowe and Mark Gottfried were in the rear-view mirror; this time, the factors at play were different.

One major reason why the Wolfpack was in better shape this time around was the high interest of mid-major coaches. UNCW’s Kevin Keatts and VCU’s Will Wade were both high on the administration’s wish list. Both of those coaches were open to listening.

NC State Athletic Director Debbie Yow introduced Keatts as the new leader of the program over the weekend. Keatts guided UNCW to three consecutive regular-season championships in the Colonial Athletic Association and two straight NCAA Tournament bids.

In a Monday radio segment, Glenn revealed the personal connections involved in Keatts’ hiring. Specifically, he explains how it “took a village” for NC State to get its man.
