Any momentum that NC State was riding after its 26-point home triumph over Virginia Tech evaporated by halftime of an embarrassing 51-point loss at UNC on Sunday.
Optics aside, NC State’s 1-2 record at this point is not unexpected. Road dates at Miami and UNC in the first three contests plus hosting what was a ranked Virginia Tech squad made for a tough three-game stretch to open the season.
If the NCAA tournament was held tomorrow, NC State would probably be watching on television. But the Pack is not as far away from the conversation.
